.barcelona at Bizbarcelona: connect your business with the city

The .barcelona domain was at Bizbarcelona on 23 and 24 October, the essential meeting point for all entrepreneurs, freelancers and companies looking to drive their business in Barcelona and on an international scale.

We were on the Barcelona Activa stand as one of the digitalisation and sustainability projects.

Bizbarcelona offered the .barcelona domain a unique platform for connecting with thousands of local professionals and businesses. The event was the ideal place for:

  • Introducing the .barcelona domain: this enables us to show the advantages and benefits of using a specific name linked to the city.
  • Offering personalised advice: our experts are ready to help resolve your doubts and help you choose the domain that suits your needs best.
  • Networking: Bizbarcelona is an excellent opportunity for establishing contact with companies, providers and potential clients.

The Firefighters’ Run is cursadebombers.barcelona

The city’s most unique sports event is here! The Firefighters’ Run turns 25 in great shape, consolidated as one of the unmissable meetings on the calendar, and with its website cursadebombers.barcelona that has already sold out all the numbers.

One of the most eagerly awaited aspects was the presentation of the commemorative t-shirt, a design inspired by the working uniform of the Barcelona Fire Service. The piece pays homage to their bravery and dedication and will be the distinctive element in what promises to be a special occasion for everybody taking part.

An official mobile app of the event is also being launched, developed by the tech sponsor NTT Data. The app will allow runners to keep track of their times in real time and access detailed information about the event, including road closures and news. The Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona is being held on 10 November, turning the city into the scene for one of the most iconic athletics events.

Participatory budgets presented on decidim.barcelona

The second edition of the participatory budgets is now under way. Members of the public can choose which projects they want to be implemented in their district in the next four years. The process will be conducted via the decidim.barcelona platform and run until April 2025.

Proposals are put forward in the first stage. They can be submitted until 29 November, and this stage also offers the chance to discuss them in face-to-face sessions held all around the city, with information on these here.

Projects of general interest or municipal responsibility will be accepted and should meet a series of requisites: able to be executed during this term of office, with a specific purpose, following criteria on sustainability and not compromising any programmes, plans or urban projects already approved. They can be projects to improve public space, municipal facilities or the acquisition or renovation of assets.

Once the stage for proposals is over, the next stage entails a technical assessment of their feasibility, to be completed in January 2025. At that point members of the public can vote for the initiatives they consider the most important, using the decidim.barcelona platform or the face-to-face support points. The 25 projects with the most backing in each district will go into the final voting stage, with support from municipal specialists.

The winning projects will be executed before 2027, with an overall budget of 30 million euros to be invested. Full information on the process and how to take part can be found on  decidim.barcelona. The platform details all the steps to follow to be a part of the second edition of the participatory budgets.

From Barcelona to London: shared experiences

The team from the .barcelona domain attended the annual meeting by the GeoTLD Group, held in London on 5 and 6 September and bringing together geographical domains (GeoTLD) and city domains to share the challenges and opportunities for our sector, the evolution of the market and new trends and challenges.

City domains attending this year’s meeting included .paris, .berlin, .amsterdam, .wien and .cologne.

The meeting puts Barcelona’s digital future and the new European regulations in the spotlight

The meeting provided a good chance to analyse the future perspectives of domains and explore new opportunities for collaboration. In this context, .barcelona highlighted how it is a domain which is open to citizens and committed to the promotion of Barcelona in the digital sphere and its contribution towards a more open and diverse internet.

The European security regulations (NIS2), which come into force in the next few months, provided another of the main topics for the meeting. The regulations are aimed at ensuring a more secure European digital environment, with more guarantees, regulations and certifications, meaning challenges in management and new dynamics in operating domains.

Towards a new round of domains

The meeting also offered a unique opportunity for us to get together again with those in charge of the ICANN, who were able to share the new round of domains due to be launched in 2026. Developed over the last ten years by the ICANN, the new round of domains will offer a great opportunity to request new domain extensions representing communities, other cities, brands and general names.

.london and .barcelona share experiences and learning

Another key moment was the bilateral meeting we held with London & Partners, the City of London agency tasked with managing the .london domain, the host for this year’s meeting. The session gave us an insight into the experiences the .london domain has had to go through since it was created, and to share initiatives in the field of marketing and promotion for both domains.

Working together for a more secure digital future

The presence of the .barcelona domain at the annual GeoTLDmeeting  reaffirms our commitment to keep working with other geoTLDs to build a more secure and prosperous digital future, and at the same time to allow the .barcelona domain to keep abreast of the latest trends in the sector, establish contacts with other similar organisations and work together.

.barcelona domain to take part in the GeoTLD group meeting in London

The .barcelona domain will be taking part in the GeoTLD group meeting in London on 5 and 6 September. The meeting is set to bring together representatives from various top level geographical domains (geoTLD) to discuss the opportunities and challenges for domains in today’s digital age.

The meeting will look at the evolution of the geoTLD market in the context of broader economic trends and ongoing digitalisation. There will be a review of factors such as economic growth, changes in internet use, the increase in the number of internet users and the growth of e-commerce. The goal is to critically assess how the geoTLD market works.

One of the essential topics in these meetings is security. Because of this, one of the sessions will look at aspects such as DNS abuse in geoTLDs, the efforts to keep these domains as secure spaces and strategies to show geoTLDs as safe online spaces.

The meeting will also look at the implementation of the NIS 2 directive, the EU regulation that will bolster cybersecurity measures to protect critical networks and information systems, broadening their scope and demanding greater coordination and resilience against cyberattacks.

Finally, there will be a talk with updates on the register, with each participating geoTLD sharing recent news and current developments.

The meeting rounds off with a summary of the questions still to be resolved and planning for the next meeting.

We meet the registration company cdmon to promote the .barcelona domain

We recently had the chance to meet part of the team from cdmon. We spoke to David Blanch, Digital Director, and to Marina Moreno, Marketing Specialist and Content Writer with the registration company.

cdmon is one of the official registration companies for the .barcelona domain. As you know, all domains must be registered through a registration company accredited by the ICANN, and domains cannot be acquired directly.

During the meeting we addressed various topics to help promote the .barcelona domain in this new stage. cdmon showed great interest in exploring new forms of collaboration that can help boost the presence of .barcelona domains in the digital market. Their experience and knowledge of the market and its needs make them an essential partner for the future of the domain.

We hope soon to be able to outline some of the initiatives we are working on with cdmon for the .barcelona domain. The aim of all of them is to offer the best possible service and promote the values and advantages of the .barcelona domain in the digital sphere.

The .barcelona domain boosts the city’s digital identity at the e-Show Barcelona

The .barcelona domain was present at the latest edition of the e-Show Barcelona, the city’s leading event for the digital and technology sector, held at Fira de Barcelona on 13 and 14 May.

At the stand we shared with the .cat domain and the registration company DonDominio, we were able to introduce the new image for the .barcelona domain to members of the public, including professionals from the digital world, companies, entrepreneurs and technology enthusiasts.

Taking part in the e-Show Barcelona was clearly also a great opportunity to highlight the characteristics and values of the .barcelona domain, ideal for those wishing to connect with Barcelona through the internet.

During the event, we were able to resolve doubts, provide personalised advice and demonstrate successful cases of people and companies that have already adopted the domain for their digital presence. Sharing this space with the DonDominio registration company made it easier for visitors to get detailed information on registering a .barcelona domain and related services.

As ever, we would like to thank those who visited us on the stand. If you have any more queries about the domain or need advice, you can contact us on social media or use our contact form.

Park Güell is written parkguell.barcelona

It’s one the symbols of our city, and one of the images most frequently sought by those who visit us. Park Güell has over a century of history and receives well over 4.5 million visitors a year.

Even so, this is space for city people. Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (BSM) has been regulating access to Park Güell since 2013, the goal being to preserve this iconic city site and to maintain it properly, in harmony with the use that local people and schools make of it.

Half a million Barcelona people used the local residents card to access the park in 2023 and nearly 160,000 people visited it as part of the Gaudir més programme. School visits practically doubled compared to the previous year.

At parkguell.barcelona you’ll find everything you need to plan your visit, as well as a detailed chronology of its construction, historical context and an extensive multimedia gallery. Come along and enjoy Park Güell, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984.

A year of transformation and commitment to the city’s digital community

Last year was a crucial period for the .barcelona domain, with a large number of key events for the city. Active participation in the most important digital congresses, such as the E-Show, BizBarcelona and WordCamp, have further strengthened the commitment to the local digital sphere.

One of the most significant projects promoted by .barcelona was to help the city’s sports clubs and organisations go digital through the initiative elmeuclubesportiu.barcelona. The project has helped reduce the digital divide in this sector, at the same time introducing people to the domain and the values and benefits associated with it.

Collaboration with other domains such as .cat, .gal and .eus took centre stage in a working meeting on 8 June. The session was used to share plans and perspectives, establish ties and explore future internet trends.

On an international level, .barcelona shared its local digitalisation projects with the GeoTLD Group at the annual meeting in Cologne, contributing to common strategies on the NIS2 directive and co-marketing.

At the ICANN 78 Congress in Hamburg, the .barcelona domain strengthened its role in internet governance, demonstrating the city’s commitment to the decisions that make up global digital architecture.

At the end of the year, the launch of the new image for the .barcelona domain signalled a strategic move to consolidate the domain as an essential point of reference for projects linked to the city.

This year gets under way with a strong determination to keep building a reputation, through collaboration with registration companies, co-marketing initiatives and an

important presence at major events. The .barcelona domain is becoming a fundamental tool for driving the city towards the digital future.
